Sunday Harvest Dinner with Melina Hammer
October 16th, 3pm - 7pm
Melina Hammer is the author of the highly anticipated cookbook, A Year at Catbird Cottage: Recipes for a Nourished Life out this May from Ten Speed Press. She and her husband host travelers who have made their Hudson Valley getaway, Catbird Cottage, the place to celebrate their most special moments. Inside the pages of her book, Melina shares curated, seasonal menus, the heirloom kitchen garden she tends, her adventures foraging, and modes of preserving seasonal bounty. In addition to the myriad storytelling layers, she also produced the lyrical, tempting, and beautiful images which accompany.
For nearly two decades, Melina has been an expert recipe developer, food stylist, and food photographer. She has been a regular contributor to The New York Times, Cooking Light, Eating Well, Edible, and Row 7 Seeds, and she is a two-year Food52 resident. Melina styled and photographed the best-selling cookbook, Simply Julia, won an IACP award for best food styling, and was nominated as an IACP finalist in recognition of the authenticity of her food, as showcased by her Instagram, @melinahammer.
All of this work has brought Melina closer to the food, posing the question: what actually is good food? She ardently believes everyone deserves to eat well no matter the circumstance or meal, and that connecting to the natural world around us can ignite a passion and lead to a more self-sustaining way of living. As a self-taught cook, Melina aims to bring eaters to an attainable means of cooking and living in a more connected and joyful way. Her food is robust and satisfying, and her sensibilities towards texture and flavor layers are lauded by foodies around the globe. For her dinner with us at Stonewood, Melina will create an of-the-moment menu, featuring wild ephemera and garden grown fare, using peak ripe elements to both seduce and feed our souls.
