Stonewood Farm welcomes husband and wife team Chef Henji Cheung and Sarah Thompson of Queen’s English, a Chinese restaurant serving Hong Kong style cuisine in Washington, DC.
Chef Henji and Sarah combine passion and heritage to share their expression of globally influenced food and wine as an ode to Hong Kong during its 186 years as a British territory.
Henji was born in New Territories, Hong Kong, a rural area north of Hong Kong Island that borders China, where he grew up eating and cooking traditional Cantonese and Hakkanese dishes with his family. At the age of 8, Henji moved with his family to Brooklyn, New York.
He began his culinary education at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, where he earned a degree in Applied Sciences and Culinary Arts. His culinary career started at Balthazar in New York City and The Ritz Carlton Hotel. In 2008, to much acclaim, Henji became Co-Owner and Chef of his first restaurant, Olana, with Chef and mentor Al di Meglio. After many years of collaborating with numerous restaurants, Henji and Sarah opened Queen’s English in 2019.
Sarah grew up in Tucson, Arizona and has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. As a professionally trained chef, she started multiple food businesses while working in restaurant kitchens and dining rooms in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Sarah runs the day to day operations of Queen’s English. She also curates their natural wine program, which is constantly evolving to match the dynamic flavors of Henji’s perpetually changing selection of dishes.
At Queen’s English, Henji celebrates the Mid-Atlantic region by incorporating regionally and locally sourced ingredients into his dishes while honoring the everyday life of his grandparents, who ran a pig and vegetable farm in China. Queen’s English is a Michelin Awarded Bib Gourmand establishment, was just recently recognized as one of the Top 25 restaurants in DC by Washingtonian Magazine, and was awarded the Wine Program of the Year award by the Washington Metropolitan Restaurant Association in 2022.
Our Sunday Harvest Dinner with Chef Henji will reflect his Chinese heritage, paired with the incredible bounty of our July Market Garden as well as Hudson Valley farmers, fishers and foragers. Not only will we have the opportunity to enjoy his gorgeous food, but Sarah will be guiding us through the dinner with wines from some of her favorite New York State winemakers and speak to how the wines will not only complement the meal but complete it.
To make a donation and reserve a place at the July 23rd dinner, please select the number of seats you’d like and then click the DONATE button. We ask that you read and accept the “fine print” at checkout.
We will attempt to accommodate special dietary requests related to the eight common allergens - gluten/wheat, milk/dairy, egg, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, finfish and shellfish - provided that you email us at chef@stonewoodny.org at least two weeks in advance of the event. Please include your phone number in the email so that we may call you to discuss the options we can offer.
