Mardi Gras King Cake | in Partnership with Cardinal Hayes Home for Children and Meals on Wheels
Celebrate Fat Tuesday with a slice of tradition! We may live in the Hudson Valley, but we can still party like it’s New Orleans! Fat Tuesday is the grand finale of the Mardi Gras season, a day of feasting, fun, and festivity before the start of Lent. It’s a time to indulge in delicious treats like King Cake, a colorful, sweet pastry filled with tradition and flavor! King Cake isn’t just a treat; it’s a celebration in every bite. Hidden inside each cake is a feve, a small ceramic token. Whoever finds the feve is crowned King or Queen of the day!
Chef Kristen will be baking thirty 7-inch round King Cakes, filled with cream cheese and Stonewood Farm berry compote, and glazing the cakes with vanilla bean icing. They’ll be festively finished with purple, green and gold sanding sugars.
And that’s not even the sweetest part. We’re also working with our friends at Cardinal Hayes Home for Children to create one-of-a-kind cakebox masterpieces! The Cardinal Hayes residents have differing levels of abilities, but nothing inhibits these inspiring young people. With some markers, paints, glue, ribbons, stickers, and stamps (made from extra wheelchair pieces!), they will create the most beautiful boxes. We think they’ll make Kristen’s King Cakes taste even better, if that’s possible!
Additionally, we’ve found a way to include our local Meals on Wheels meal recipients in the celebration. For each King Cake sold, we’ll include a custom Cardinal Hayes craft and a Stonewood Farm baked treat with the Meals on Wheels delivery.
Each King Cake serves 6-8 people and is $35. They will be available for pick-up on Tuesday, March 4th, from 3 pm to 5 pm at Marona’s Market in the Village of Millbrook. Please note that you won’t be able to purchase the King Cakes at Marona’s and these are the only hours that they can be picked up. All proceeds support the Giving Garden at Cardinal Hayes and our other community outreach programs.
Each King Cake serves 6-8 people and is $35. The cake contains gluten, eggs and dairy and we can not accommodate any special requests for dietary restrictions and/or allergies.
