Stonewood Farm is a well-respected not-for-profit organization and agricultural property in Millbrook, New York. Our mission is to address food insecurity, train future farmers in organic and regenerative practices, and cultivate a community committed to a sustainable and resilient food system.

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Property Manager to join our small, congenial farm team. This is a full-time, year-round position responsible for maintaining the beauty, functionality, and safety of our 15-acre deer-fenced property. While this is not a farming role, it plays a critical part in supporting our farming, culinary, and community programming.

About the Property

Our campus includes:

  • A family residence and tenant house

  • Multiple farm buildings, including a cookhouse and greenhouse

  • Woodland, perennial, shade, and pond gardens

  • A small orchard

  • A 1.5-acre USDA-certified organic market garden

The market garden is central to our operations, producing vegetables and fruit for community outreach programming.

We host immersive on-farm educational programs, tours and lunches, weekly volunteer days, monthly harvest dinners, and weekly pop-up markets featuring farm products, prepared foods, baked goods, flowers, and eggs. All activities directly support our outreach mission.

Position Overview

The Property Manager works closely with the founders, farm managers, and team members to ensure the farm’s grounds, infrastructure, and buildings are well maintained and aesthetically exceptional.

This is a physically demanding, hands-on role requiring work in all weather conditions.

Outdoor Responsibilities

  • General landscape and garden maintenance (mowing, weeding, edging, pruning, leaf removal, organic pest/disease management)

  • Clearing fallen trees, limbs, and brush

  • Construction and implementation of garden designs, raised beds, and landscape features

  • Planting and seasonal care of bulbs, shrubs, trees, and decorative containers

  • Seasonal installation/moving of garden furniture, planters, and storm windows/screens

  • Inspection and maintenance of perimeter deer fencing

  • Pond maintenance

  • Maintenance and servicing of landscape and farm equipment (Scag riding mower, John Deere tractor, snow blower, chainsaw, etc.)

  • Exterior building maintenance (power washing, window cleaning, gutter/downspout maintenance, paint touch-ups)

  • Driveway maintenance

  • Snow removal

  • Chicken care and chicken house maintenance

  • Installation and maintenance of drip irrigation systems

  • Event parking and traffic coordination

Schedule

  • Full-time (40 hours per week), primarily outdoors in good weather, with indoor work during inclement weather

  • Some early mornings, evenings, and weekends are required based on events and seasonal needs

Indoor Responsibilities

  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems

  • Painting and plaster repair

  • Basic carpentry (use of saws, drills, and related tools)

  • Cleaning and maintenance of farm building interiors

  • Seasonal display setup and breakdown

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience managing large properties, farms, or estates

  • Demonstrated proficiency maintaining and operating landscape equipment

  • Demonstrated proficiency with interior painting

  • Snow plowing experience (own truck and plow preferred)

  • Window glazing experience

  • Experience raising chickens

The Ideal Candidate will be:

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities independently

  • Collaborative and professional, with strong interpersonal skills

  • Detail-oriented with an excellent aesthetic sensibility

  • Resourceful, proactive, and solutions-focused with strong troubleshooting skills

  • Comfortable finding and supervising subcontractors, craftspeople, and vendors as needed

  • Responsive to communication via phone, email, and text

  • Comfortable working at heights and on ladders

  • Physically able to lift 50 pounds and work in all weather conditions

  • In possession of a valid U.S. driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation, as housing is not included

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary: $72,000 (for a candidate meeting listed qualifications)

  • 15 paid vacation days

  • 5 personal days

The majority of time off should be taken during the winter months when operations slow.

This is a W-2 employee position. Stonewood Farm provides standard payroll withholdings and covers employer payroll taxes, workers’ compensation, and unemployment insurance.
